Japan uses 100V at 50 / 60Hz, with plug types A and B (IEC list). Type A has two flat pins; type B adds a round earth pin.
Look for “INPUT” on the charger, AC adapter or device label (for example “100-240V”). If it shows one number, enter it in both boxes.
- Plug adapter: only changes the plug shape so it fits the outlet. It does not change the voltage
- Voltage converter (transformer): changes the voltage. Only needed when 100V is outside your device's INPUT range. Check the converter's manual for which devices and how many watts it supports
- If a label shows only one frequency (50Hz or 60Hz), check the manual, because Japan uses both (50 / 60Hz) depending on the area
